‘è–Ú APPLICATIONS OF LIEfs THEORY OF CONTINUOUS TRANSFORMATION GROUPS TO DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
ŠT—v This talk aims at introducing the Lie group theory of differential equations. Applications are illustrated by examples of differential equations arising in nonlinear phenomena; symmetries of these equations are used to construct exact solutions whenever possible or at least reduce the order of the equation. It is worth noting that physically meaningful solutions would have been obtained from symmetries which satisfy the boundary and initial conditions. For the purpose of this presentation, only Lie point (classical) symmetries are considered; however, non-classical symmetries become vital in the study of many mathematical models with real world applications.
